Technical Support

As a manufacturer, we pride ourselves on the quality of our products and for optimum performance, we recommend you have a qualified engineer service your product regularly.

The technical support questions and corresponding answers below are designed to help you identify any potential issue before it becomes serious. In all circumstances please contact your qualified engineer to carry out the necessary checks.

Water Heating

Why is there intermittent water discharge on warm up?

If you use an expansion vessel it could be that it has lost its charge pressure. In this case we recommend the following:
1. Turn off the mains supply to the unvented hot water cylinder
2. Open a hot water tap, preferably on the same floor or the floor below where the cylinder is located to relieve pressure.
3. Check pressure within expansion vessel. Re-pressurise to 3.0 bar if required.
4. Close the hot water tap.
5. Turn the mains supply back on and bring the cylinder up to working pressure.

If your water heater uses internal expansion with an internal air gap it could be that this needs replenishing.
1. Turn off the mains supply to the unvented hot water cylinder
2. Open a hot water tap, preferably on the same floor or the floor below where the cylinder is located.
3. Operate the temperature and pressure relief valve until water stops flowing.
4. Close the hot water tap and the temperature and pressure relief valve.
5. Turn the mains supply back on and bring the cylinder up to working pressure.

Why is the cylinder cooling down overnight?

We recommend installing a non-return valve as close as possible to the cylinder.

Why do we have continuous water discharge?

It could be that the pressure reducing valve (PRV) is not functioning properly. Check the pressure and replace cartridge if necessary.

It could also be the expansion relief valve not seating properly. Manually lift the valve once or twice to clear debris from the seat. If this does not resolve the problem you should replace the valve.

Finally the temperature & pressure relief valve may not be seating correctly. Manually lift the valve once or twice to clear debris from the seat. If this does not resolve the problem you should replace the valve.

Why is the primary heating not working? The boiler runs for a short period, goes off, then comes on again. This is repeated until the cylinder reaches its target temperature.

Possibly air is trapped in the heat exchanger. Try venting air from the heat exchanger circuit.
It could also be that the heat exchanger surface is too small. Check data for the boiler and cylinder. The problem may be resolved by increasing the flow from the boiler.

Why do we only have cold or lukewarm water out of the taps?

There could be a few reasons for this. Please check each of these:
Is the programmer set to heating only and not switched on for hot water?
Has the high limit thermostat tripped? Check and re-set and if necessary you should investigate the cause.
Is there a pump malfunction? Check wiring and/or plumbing connections.
Have the hot and cold taps been connected correctly?
Finally, if in doubt, check the instruction manual.

Refrigeration

Why is the compressor not functioning properly?

We recommend you perform the following checks:
1. Check isolator, fuses, MCBs, contactor and control circuit wiring.
2. Check for low pressure. It may be there is a refrigerant leak, in which case repair or recharge.
3. Check if the compressor has overheated.
4. Check the starting capacitor.
5. Check the relay.
6. Check the oil level.
7. Check the compressor motor.

Why does the compressor start and run but only on short cycles?

We recommend you first check the wiring and settings of the overload protector. If that is in order you should check for any air flow restrictions and check refrigerant levels.

Why is the suction line frosted or sweating?

The expansion valve may be superheating too low. Check the orifice size or adjust the valve.

Why is the liquid line frosted or sweating?

There may be a restriction in the filter drier. Check and replace part if necessary.
