To round off national apprenticeship week 2022, we asked our apprentice continuous improvement technician, Jack, about his current apprenticeship with us here at Fabdec.

Jack started in late September 2021 and has made several great improvements to our business in his time already.

What were you doing before you started your apprenticeship with Fabdec?

I was working as a site manager at a secondary school and attending college in the evening

What made you choose an apprenticeship?

I wanted a career change and believe this would be an ideal step in the right direction

How have you found your apprenticeship at Fabdec?

There is a lot to do and much to learn but the support I am receiving is making it manageable

How has the support and guidance you received whilst completing your apprenticeship been?

It’s a rather independent role but the level of support has been great.

How did you hear about the apprenticeship opportunity here at Fabdec?

I found the advertisement through Shrewsbury college.

What part of the apprenticeship did you most enjoy?

I enjoy the college days, as you get to spend time and network with fellow learners from the same or similar courses.

What has been a highlight of your role?

Introducing 5S standards across the warehouse to improve the workshop floor layout and standards to an even higher level than it was before.

What have you learned most about during your time at Fabdec?

Organising myself and learning to pass my ideas on to others while managing their expectations.

What advice would you give to others looking to start an apprenticeship?

Be prepared to be dynamic and flexible. Your own expectations of the apprenticeship will mostly differ from what the actual apprenticeship is, just remember that experience within an industry will vastly outshine any paper qualification. An enthusiastic and can-do personality will take you far in life!

Thank you Jack for your insight and we hope you enjoy the rest of your apprenticeship with us.
